The 10,000 Foot Party is an idea that our Carpenter/Rec. Coordinator extrodinare had for a charity-event-slash-middle-of-the-season-blowout-party. One of the most important parts of the evening is that dressing up was encouraged. So, it gave Lynette and I an excuse to dress to the 9’s.
There were several fund raising ideas, including door prizes (you could contribute dollars with your name on them, which would get drawn for donated prizes), an auction, and an cash bar. The auction included some donated items from the people on station, including jewlery that was hand made by Kiwi Paul, one of our plumbers; one of the flags that flew at the Pole over the summer; a special visit to the Sugar Shack, a cozy little shack out on the berms that people like to get away to, including drinks and snacks; breakfast served in bed; and the most popular items, some autographed prints of a few of Robert Schwarz’s aurora photos (he has taken some amazing aurora photos while he’s been down here for the last several winters, you can see some of them at Iceman’s South Pole Page).
Lynette and I weren’t drinking too much, but I wasn’t going to let that stop me from getting down to Micheal Jackson’s Billy Jean. Here’s a video of the action: Stauchy Jackson. Good times!
