We spent last night in a hotel near the airport. Since we were coming in at 11pm, we just decided to go the easy route even though it is more expensive. We got up this morning, and headed for a hostel in Miraflores and had grand hopes (only to be squashed) of getting our Brazilian visas overnight.
We stopped by a photo shop and got some passport photos taken for the visas. We then hit the Embassy who then sent us to a bank to pay the ¨reciprocity fee¨ of $100. The lady who spoke to us was very nice and would try to speed up the visas, but basically told us that we couldn´t expect them before Friday. When we returned from the bank, we learned that the ¨reciprocity fee¨apparently went up YESTERDAY and we each owed an additional $30-bummer.
We then hit the TACA airlines office to see about moving our flight to Cusco scheduled for tomorrow. There are no seats available in our price range for Friday or Saturday It is cheaper for us to purchase new tickets on Aerocondor than to make this change. We essentially just lost those air tickets. I am sure that even with these additional costs, it will live up to our expectations!
Until the visas come through, we´ll just be hanging in Lima.
