The Recovery Begins - Oct. 9, 2006

After far too little sleep, we dragged ourselves out of bed at 7am.  We actually had some good news during the drive the day before, Lynette’s training actually didn’t start until Tuesday, and mine not until Wednesday.  This means that we had the whole day free to try to recover from the burglary.  During the drive we had compiled a list that consisted of two major categories: 1) Deal with the insurance claim and police report, and 2) Replace all the high priority stuff that was stolen.

In the morning we spent time brainstorming what we had lost, talking to the insurance adjuster (making a statement, getting information and asking questions), talking to the police officer, and looking for out stolen goods on ebay, craigslist, and anything else we could think of.  We thought that we had a couple of good leads: A laptop computer which was advertised as an inspiron, but didn’t know any details; and an ipod nano that the guy claimed that he was getting rid of presents from his ex-girlfriend in order to get a ticket to Utah, so he needed to sell fast.  That one raised two flags: 1) it was a present, so he may have been trying to explain why there was an engraving, and 2) he wanted to sell fast.  The guy selling the laptop got back to me and it was definitely not ours.  The person selling the ipod never responded, and Lynette is convinced to this day that it was her ipod.

That day, we also decided on where to put the funds from the sale of our house.  We spent some time in the morning researching CDs and banks, then we spent about 3 hours in our new bankers office, telling him the story and being assured by him that our money was safe.  After that we went to REI where we were unsuccessful at finding backpacks.  We also went to Sports Athority to find new jackets.  We were unsuccessful at that as well, but we did manage to replace most of our excersize clothing that was stolen.

All in all, it was a pretty frustrating day.  It had been a long, tiring day and we had  only replaced about $300 out of what turned out to be $8500 worth of stolen stuff.  We got our bags ready to take to Denver the next day because we decided to stay in Denver the following night.  Once again, it was a late night and we dropped into bed around 3am, absolutely exhausted.
