Getting to Lake Titicaca-Jan 10 and 11 (LAS)

We took the “tourist” bus from Cusco to Puno which included some stops at ruins and a very good buffet lunch stop. We stayed overnight in Puno, and bused from Puno to Copacabana, Bolivia the following day.  We booked this while in Lima.  Knowing what we know now, we were scammed into this bus and paid more than we should have…Alas life is about living and learning, right?

Puno seemed to be a bit of a crap town.  We hopped in a cab who promised a fair and change, attempted to over charge…yadda yadda yadda…it was pouring rain and the lake views weren´t great.  We were glad that we left no plan to hang out here.  I will say that the brick -oven pizza we had for dinner was great.

The border crossing was painless in a logistical sense, but painful in dollars and cents.  For those who haven´t heard, it now costs US citizens $100 per person for a visa into Bolivia (as of December).  The visa is good for 5 years….but… our plan is for 10 days - which makes Bolivia a lot pricier than we initially thought.

When we arrived in Copacabana, we wondered the streets and checked out a few hostels before settling in on one located a bit up the hill and a bit more obscure than the ones mentioned in the guidebooks (which some didn´t seem to have very secure rooms)… and began settling in and checking out our options around town.
